Welcome
Scripture tells us “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100: 1-5).
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Mt. Scott Church of God Worship Arts is three-fold:
- Glorify God
- Proclaim God’s Word through music
- Minister to and through those who serve in Mt. Scott Church of God’s Worship Arts
Our mission as a worship team, sound/technical crew, and choir is to worship our Lord and to lead the congregation into worship. That is best accomplished by perfecting the music so it does not detract from the worship experience. Philippians 4:8 instructs us to focus our minds and thoughts on “things that are excellent and praiseworthy.” We want to do our best to honor God, realizing our talent comes from Him.
Our Objectives
To glorify Jesus Christ by allowing Him to use the Worship Arts at Mt. Scott COG as a tool by which to work through the life of each individual member to:
- Be effective in our ministry to our congregational family through the worshipful singing and leading of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
- Prepare the hearts of the congregation to receive and apply the Word of God.
- Foster a healthy and vibrant ministry within the music ministry family.
- Be an example to the other members of the body at Mt. Scott COG and in the local community by the testimony of their lives.
- Be fully committed and faithful in attending rehearsals and services.
- Provide an avenue of service to the body at Mt. Scott COG.
- Strive for excellence in all corporate and individual endeavors relating to the Worship Arts.
QUICK F.A.Q.’S
What is the Purpose?
The purpose of the music that God gives us is to exalt His Name and proclaim His glory, to declare our love and adoration for Him, and to celebrate His presence. Each Sunday as the church gathers, the Mt. Scott COG Worship Arts leads in a style of worship incorporating songs that are both modern and traditional. The team desires that everyone in the congregation may find relevance in the songs.
Is it just about singing?
It is so much more than singing! We consider our rehearsals a time of worship and fellowship. Through our commitment and practice, we take our rehearsals seriously, but we also enjoy the company of each other and desire our music ministry to function as a small group, where we can minister and pray for one another.
How can I join the Choir?
You are welcome to come and sit in on a choir rehearsal as our guest and see if it is for you.
Is the Choir just for singers who can read music?
The Mt. Scott COG Choir is a place for people who love to sing and those who want to worship God. No audition is necessary. The choir is made up of both people who can and cannot read music. Most often, recordings are provided for each of the pieces, which especially help those who do not read music. Together we make music and praise to God as we blend our voices as one. The choir is a wonderful group of loving people who are enjoying the presence of God together. Your effectiveness in choir will depend on your heart as much as your voice.
What is the actual time commitment for Choir?
We rehearse on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:15pm in the Sanctuary. We would like to be able to sing about once a month during Sunday service. At Christmas, Easter and other special occasions, we will perform more extensive programs that require a little more rehearsal time.
What is the actual time commitment for Worship Team and Tech Team?
Because Worship Team and Tech Team members rotate on a regular basis, time commitment varies. In general, the Worship Team and Tech Team practice from 8:15-9:30pm on Wednesdays in the Sanctuary and from 7:45-9:00am on
